Kyle Andrew Orr is a senior music education major at Abilene Christian University. He is president of the ACU A Cappella Chorus and actively participates in the ACU Opera Workshop program. This semester he is engaged to perform the role of Sam Kaplan from Kurt Weill's Street Scene in March 2007.
His previous roles have included: Alfredo in the Abilene Tri-Collegiate production of Die Fledermaus, Cecco in Peter Pan and Harry in La Fanciulla del West with the Abilene Opera Association, Thomas Andrews in Princess Anne High School's production of Titanic: the musical, and Jacob in the Governor's School for the Arts production of The Ballad of Baby Doe.

As a teenager in Virginia Beach, VA, Kyle led worship services at the Providence Road Church of Christ in Chesapeake, VA and was a member of the award winning teenage a cappella group, Salt of the Earth. Kyle was also a member and featured soloist of numerous ensembles as a part of the Princess Anne High School Choral program, including
the Cantata, Renaissance, High Chamber, Madrigal, Jazz, Show, Men's, and Competition choirs. Competing in numerous solo competitions, won third place and a scholarship in the 2001 Lion's Club Bland Competition, a gold medal award winner in the 2001 Festivals at Sea International Competition, and a gold medal award winner of the New York International Soloist Competition. Kyle also spent a year with the prestigious Governor's School for the Arts Opera Program in Norfolk, VA as a choruster and featured soloist, and also performed the role of Jacob in The Ballad of Baby Doe. In his senior year of high school, Kyle worked as student musical director while performing the role of Thomas Andrews in Titanic: the musical.
Early in his college career he performed as a choruster and featured soloist in such ensembles as the Lipcomb University Chorus and Vocal Jazz Ensemble in Nashville, TN. While in Tennessee, Kyle sang with the Green Street Church of Christ Praise Team and worked closely with the youth and homeless ministries there. While assisting the Princess Anne High School Choir in the 2003-2004 school year, he worked as choral director of both the 2003 production of Quilters: the musical and the 2004 production of Grease: the musical while operating as an assistant choral director and vocal coach for seasonal concerts.
Since studying at ACU, he has been an active member of the ACU A Cappella Chorus, featured as a soloist in the Fall 2006 production of Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols. When performing with the ACU Vocal Arts Ensemble, Kyle sang the roles of: the Defendent from Trial by Jury, Ko-Ko from The Mikado, Samuel from Pirates of Penzance, and sang as a featured soloist in the Fall 2005 performance of Brahm's Ziguenerlieder. With the ACU Opera Workshop scenes programs, he has sung the roles of Don Ottavio from Don Giovanni, Tom Rakewell from The Rakes Progress, Lord Arturo Bucklaw from Lucia di Lammermoor,
Camille from Die lustige Witwe, and Fritz Kobus from L'amico Fritz. Kyle has also performed with the Abilene Classical Chorus, enjoys singing occasionally on the praise team of the Highland Church of Christ, and has performed as a guest soloist in ACU's daily chapel services.
Kyle is currently working for the ACU Music Department as stage manager of the William's Performing Arts Center's coveted Recital Hall.
After graduating in December 2007, Kyle plans on continuing his education by pursuing a graduate degree in vocal performance. |
